WORKING TOGETHER Matters of work inclusion for people with Intellectual disabilities

Building an inclusive workforce has a measurable impact not only on business but on society too.

Diversity and inclusion efforts often start with diverse recruiting, to build stronger teams, but once those teams are created there’s much more work to be done. Work inclusion is a challenge.

So here are some tips to make the working conditions easier on both sides:

  • Build an inclusive action plan.
  • When working with your teams, be as well as a professional as a kind human.
  • Treat colleagues the way they want to be treated.
  • Show respect to everyone.
  • Be helpful and offer your work indigence to the others.
  • Listen to everyone and allow others to speak.
  • Cultivate a sense of belonging through team-building activities.
  • Be patient and pay attention to everyone who is expressing himself.
  • Use simple vocabulary, to be accessible to all the team.
  • Be fair to all the team.
  • Provide as much inclusion training as possible you need to your staff.
  • Organize brief team events.
  • Help employees understand each other better by sharing their experiences and success stories.
  • Remember each person is unique.
